Manchester Water District takes pride in the quality of water we are able to provide for our customers. District staff monitor our facilities and perform water quality sampling on a daily basis. Throughout the course of a year, staff will collect more than 100 water samples for independent analysis at certified laboratories. The results are then submitted to the Washington State Department of Health Office of Drinking Water.
Every spring, our Annual Water Quality Report is published and distributed to our customers. We encourage you to read the report and let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Any specific data not included in the annual report may be available upon request. Our goal is to provide an abundant supply of safe drinking water in an efficient and reliable manner.
All of our water comes from underground wells located within our service territory. Water is pumped directly from the ground and into our distribution system. We do not use surface water from any source or purchase water from other entities. Our water is not filtered or processed through a water treatment plant. We do add trace amounts of chlorine and fluoride at the wellhead.
Manchester Water District has more than 30 miles of distribution pipelines in our system. To provide a barrier against bacterial growth, trace amounts of chlorine are added to the water as it leaves the wells.
Since 1970, Manchester Water District has been adding fluoride to our water. Ratepayers voted in favor of fluoridation in 1969, and again in subsequent surveys and public hearings since. The United States Surgeon General, and numerous dental health professionals, support fluoridation of drinking water.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention consider fluoridation of drinking water to be a safe and effective method of improving oral health.
Manchester Water District has a strict wellhead protection policy to protect our well sites from potential pollution and tampering. Our facilities are monitored 24-hours a day, and we have staff on-call at all times. We encourage our customers to report any potential source of pollution at or near any public water supply or storage facility. Call our office at 360-871-0500 with any concerns.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires all community water systems to prepare and distribute an annual water quality report that summarizes information regarding source water, detected contaminants, compliance, and educational information.
Each year, Manchester Water District prepares a Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) for distribution to all District customers. The purpose of the CCR is to inform the public of where their water comes from, testing results and actions, contaminant levels, and other pertinent information regarding the public water system. We encourage our customers to read the report, and ask any questions that may arise.
